ADVENT GIVING TREE - For some years now the ESCM has had the tradition of an Advent Giving Tree.  The tree will be displayed in the Church on Sundays 1st, 8th and 15th December.  The branches are decorated with gift tags and on these is written a request e.g. “Mother age 30”, “Dad age 35”, “Boy age 4”, Girl age 14”.  We ask for your generosity to help families and individuals in our community to celebrate the Birth of Our Lord.  You are asked to take 1 or more of these tags, purchase an appropriate gift and then return the wrapped gift to the office on Sundays or during the week, attaching the original request.  PLEASE RETURN BEFORE 12 NOON ON WEDNESDAY 18th December.  The gifts will then be distributed to the families.  Any gifts delivered later than this will not be distributed – it will be too late.  On this date we will also distribute any food items delivered to the office for our Food Pantry families.  This tradition in the ESCM is a wonderful example of the spirit of the ESCM community.  With the giving tree we can share and be aware of others.  Thank you and God bless.

Fridays, 6th + 20th December, our Bible Prayer Group will meet inroom Aggäus at 6.30pm.  All are welcome to join.

Sunday, 8th December - After the 11:15 am Mass, we will have our Mission Coffee Sunday, which will feature a special visitor, who will be very happy to speak to each and every child present.  Do come along and welcome him!

Monday, 9th December – 6-7pm, English Christmas Carol Service in Fraumünster, Münsterhof 2, 8001 Zurich.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) – The first meeting for adults who wish to prepare for the Sacraments of Initiation of the Roman Catholic church (Baptism + Confirmation, but also Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist) will take place in the Antoniussaal in St. Anton's Foyer on Sunday, 15th December, immediately after the 11.15 Mass.  All those who are interested are invited to this meeting to receive information on how this preparation will proceed and what is involved.

Sunday, 26th January – immediately after Mass there will be a fundraising Coffee Sunday for the charity project in Indonesia.  The money raised will be used to build clean water infrastructure in the inland area of Oksibil Mountain, Papua.

The Food Pantry distribution in January will be on Wednesday 29th, 2-3pm, PROVIDED there is enough food to distribute to the families who make use of this service.  It is extremely important to support this ministry as a community by please delivering to the Mission office the following items: toiletries for men and women, household detergents, etc. and all non-perishable food items, e.g.: canned/bottled/dried foods such as: fruits, vegetables, soups, meats, tuna, corned beef, pulses and cereals, biscuits, sugar, salt, rice, packet soup, pasta sauces, vinegar, cooking oil, etc.  All donations, however small, are gratefully received.  !!!We do NOT however accept food that is already past its sell-by date or that has already been opened!!!  We ask our Food Pantry families to be punctual when they come to collect what has been donated.  Thank you.

For all you globetrotters out there!  “Mass Times for Travel” is the perfect free app for any travelling Catholic.  It allows you to find a Mass nearby, wherever you are.  It often offers additional information on availabilities for Adoration and Confession.  The app also provides directions to help you fulfill the Sunday obligation while on the road.

COLLECTIONS DECEMBER 2019-JANUARY 2020

30 November + 1 December – These collections are to support disabled children in the Kiyinda Mityana Diocese in Uganda and generally in Uganda at large.  The request comes from the Sisters of the Blessed Margaret of Castello in Kiboga, Uganda, who support 540 disabled children through education programmes, paying for their school fees, scholastic materials and health support

7 + 8 – These collections are for the Work and Needs of our own Mission community – www.englishmission.ch

14 + 15 – These collections are for a charity project in Indonesia, and will be used to build clean water infrastructure in the inland area of Oksibil Mountain, Papua.

21-26 December – These collections are for the Children and Mothers of Bethlehem.  As a non-profit organization based in Lucerne, Children’s Relief Bethlehem runs the Caritas Baby Hospital in Bethlehem, which is the only children's hospital in the West Bank.  With around 53'000 pediatric cases treated every year, the Caritas Baby Hospital is one of the key pillars of the Palestinian healthcare system.  They are delighted to hear from you if you have questions about what they do with the donations received - https://www.kinderhilfe-bethlehem.ch/en

28 December-1 January 2020 – These collections are for the Franciscan Family Centre in Bethlehem.  The Franciscan Family Centre was established in Bethlehem in 2004 to provide professional counselling to those Christian families who have suffered psychological trauma from the armed conflict in Bethlehem as well as providing educationally sponsored programs for children and adults.  The Centre collaborates with the Franciscan Latin Parish in Bethlehem to promote services and assistance for Christian families.  https://www.ffhl.org/programs/humanitarian-programs/franciscan-family-center-bethlehem/

4 + 5 January "Caritas Week".  Caritas Switzerland prevents, combats and alleviates poverty worldwide in around 20 countries. With its projects in development cooperation, it works in the areas of food security, water, climate protection, disaster prevention and migration as well as education for children and adults. It provides emergency relief in disasters and is actively involved in reconstruction work. Caritas Switzerland is also committed to helping people in Switzerland who are affected by poverty and are socially disadvantaged.  https://www.caritas.ch/en

11 + 12 January – SOFO Solidarity Funds for Mother + Child.
The social network in Switzerland is well-developed.  Nevertheless, it has weaknesses, especially in the area of
motherhood.  The birth of a child can suddenly pose a financial risk to the parents.  Single parents and working poor families are particularly vulnerable to financial distress.  The Solidarity Fund for mother and child helps here - thanks to your donation!  https://www.frauenbund.ch/solidaritaetsfonds/der-solidaritaetsfonds-fuer-mutter-und-kind/

18 + 19 January – Work and needs of our own Mission community – www.englishmission.ch

25 + 26 January – These collections are for a charity project in Indonesia, and will be used to build clean water infrastructure in the inland area of Oksibil Mountain, Papua.
