HOLY SOULS – November is the month of the Holy Souls, a time for us to remember to pray for all the dead, particularly those in our families.  During the month of November we will display our parish “Book of Remembrance”.  In this book you are asked to write the names of all those you knew who have died and you will be remembering in this month of the Holy Souls.  This book will be on display on Our Lady's altar in the upper church.  Adults, children, parishioners, visitors, everyone may write the names of those for whom they wish to pray.

Fridays, 8th + 22nd November - our Bible Prayer Group will meet in room Aggäus at 6.30pm.  All are welcome to join.

Our next After Mass Coffees are on Sundays 10th + 24th  November.

The next Food Pantry distribution will be on Wednesday, 20th November, 2-3pm, PROVIDED there is enough food to distribute to the families who make use of this service.  This will be the last food distribution before Christmas, therefore it is extremely important to support this ministry as a community by please delivering to the Mission office the following items: toiletries for men and women, household detergents, etc. and all non-perishable food items, e.g.: canned/bottled/dried foods such as: fruits, vegetables, soups, meats, tuna, corned beef, pulses and cereals, biscuits, sugar, salt, rice, packet soup, pasta sauces, vinegar, cooking oil, etc.  All donations, however small, are gratefully received.  !!!We do NOT however accept food that is already past its sell-by date or that has already been opened!!!  We ask our Food Pantry families to be punctual when they come to collect what has been donated.  Thank you.

ADVENT GIVING TREE - For some years now the ESCM has had the tradition of an Advent Giving Tree.  The tree will be displayed in the Church on Sundays 1st, 8th and 15th December.  The branches are decorated with gift tags and on these is written a request e.g. “Mother age 30”, “Dad age 35”, “Boy age 4”, Girl age 14”.  We ask for your generosity to help families and individuals in our community to celebrate the Birth of Our Lord.  You are asked to take 1 or more of these tags, purchase an appropriate gift and then return the wrapped gift to the office on Sundays or during the week, attaching the original request.  PLEASE RETURN BEFORE 12 NOON ON WEDNESDAY 18th December.  The gifts will then be distributed to the families.  Any gifts delivered later than this will not be distributed – it will be too late.  This tradition in the ESCM is a wonderful example of the spirit of the ESCM community.  With the giving tree we can share and be aware of others.  Thank you and God bless.

Preparation for the Christmas Eve Family Mass

Newcomers to the English Mission might not know that we celebrate the first Mass of Christmas on the 24th, Christmas Eve, at 7pm, and also at the normal mass time of 11.15am on Christmas Day.  For many many years at the Christmas Eve Mass at 7pm on the 24th, the Gospel story of Jesus’ birth has been enacted by the children of the mission, in the tradition that we have in English speaking countries for Christian children to take part in a “nativity play”.

We are looking for a couple of people to take over organising and running the play from Sam de Mello and Kate Taylor, who can no longer run it.  We have a script and a full set of costumes: all you need to do is recruit children to play the parts, find two narrators, and organise two rehearsals.  It's a great way to get to know other families in the community, and a fantastic way for the children to learn about the Christmas story.  Alternatively, if there are any students at international school who will be here for Christmas, taking over this project this would be a great way to increase your service (or “CAS”) hours.

So - it's a once a year, short term project.  If you think you might be able to help organise this, please do contact the office. Being able to put on the nativity play depends on someone coming forward to organise it.  Thank you.
